Shekhar Kapur is a visionary filmmaker whose storytelling transcends borders, blending deeply human narratives with grand cinematic spectacle.
With a career spanning decades, he has been honored with prestigious accolades, including a BAFTA Award, a National Film Award, a National Board of Review Award, and three Filmfare Awards, alongside a Golden Globe nomination. In 2025, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor, for his contributions to cinema.
Kapur made his directorial debut with the widely acclaimed Masoom (1983) before cementing his legacy with Mr. India (1987), a film that remains an enduring classic. His work gained international recognition with Bandit Queen (1994), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. In 1998, he brought Elizabeth to life—a riveting historical drama that earned seven Academy Award nominations and solidified his place in global cinema. He followed it with The Four Feathers (2002) and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), furthering his reputation as a master of period storytelling.
