Rid Burman is a photographer with an artistic lineage, hailing from a family of sculptors and painters. This heritage deeply influences his visually captivating and art-driven photographic portfolio. After earning his degree from the Brooks Institute of Photography in California in 2000, Burman honed his craft in New York, working alongside renowned photographers Steven Klein and Mark Seliger. Drawing from his experience assisting several photographers, Rid employs a deep understanding of lighting and storytelling in his advertising work.
Returning to India in 2008, he quickly established himself as a creative force, collaborating with numerous brands and publications such as ‘Elle’ and ‘Vogue’. Known for his relentless drive and storytelling vision, Burman blends Western and Eastern influences, drawing inspiration from diverse philosophies. Constantly on the move between Paris, New York, and Mumbai, his work reflects a global perspective, enriched by the cultures and aesthetics of the places he explores.
He has worked with several publications like Conde Nast and The New York Times, with his editorial and commercial projects reflecting a blend of creativity and precision.
His breakthrough came with Tresmode's Summer Resort 2011 campaign, a low-budget project that introduced a fresh approach to local advertising. This success led to collaborations with brands like Metro and Mochi. His portfolio spans diverse industries, featuring work for brands such as Vogue, Elle, GQ, Marie Claire, Kingfisher, Ponds, L’Oréal Paris, Sony, and Canon.
In fashion advertising, campaigns for Wills Lifestyle and Park Avenue display his versatility in catering to both traditional and modern sensibilities. Internationally, his expertise in delivering high-quality visuals within constraints is evident in his work for Nordstrom and projects in locations like Budapest and Cape Town.
Beyond fashion, Rid has created campaigns for brands including Docomo, Honda, Westside, Reid & Taylor, Maybelline, and Killer. Collaborations with Harrods and global campaigns for beauty and tech brands further underscore his ability to operate across domestic and international markets.
A vocal advocate for quality and originality, Rid critiques India’s cost-conscious mindset in advertising and urges investment in strong visuals. He emphasizes the importance of technical proficiency and encourages aspiring photographers to refine their skills through extensive assisting experience.
As part of TAP (The Artists Project), a Mumbai-based creative talent agency, Rid has supported industry structuring and nurtured emerging talents. Now, he is expanding internationally, leveraging his vision to push creative boundaries.
