Prakash Kurup

Prakash Kurup is an accomplished editor and director for advertising and films, with a career spanning over three decades. He is the co-founder of Prime Focus Limited, a leading post-production company that has profoundly influenced the realms of advertising and filmmaking. Prime Focus has consistently set benchmarks in creativity and technology, with its powerhouse division, DNEG, earning global acclaim, including seven Academy Awards, notably one for Dune: Part One.


Prakash's early career reflects his deep passion for storytelling and visual arts. Before co-founding Prime Focus, he worked as a 2D animation instructor and a comic illustrator, with several published illustrated books to his credit. This foundation in illustration and animation continues to shape his innovative approach to editing and direction.


Known for his versatility and artistic vision, Prakash has carved a unique niche in visual storytelling, seamlessly blending technical expertise with creative flair. As the Head of Creative for Prime Focus’s Advertising division in India, he has spearheaded numerous award-winning projects. His contributions to broadcast packaging, design, and advertising have earned accolades such as Cannes Lions, AdFest Asia Pacific, Promax, Ad Club Abbies, Kyoorius Awards, and the prestigious title of Smoke Artist of the Year.


One of his most notable works in advertising includes editing The Story of Kaveri, a highly awarded public service film for Ayappa from Earlyman Films. Over the years, Prakash has contributed to various advertising campaigns and cinematic projects. His extensive portfolio in commercials is complemented by his notable contributions to high-profile films such as Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva (2022), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) andSolo (2017) as Song Editor, along with several short films. His role as an editor on Brahmāstra was particularly significant. A VFX-heavy film, it both excited and challenged him, pushing him to expand his creative boundaries and explore uncharted territories in storytelling.


Recently, he directed a multi-film marketing campaign for Uttarakhand Tourism, hyper-targeting international and domestic audiences. Currently, he is creatively involved in the marketing arm of Prime Focus’s Ramayana, collaborating with diverse creative stakeholders on this epic project. Ramayana, brought to life by Namit Malhotra’s vision and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is slated for release in 2026.


Prakash's creative pursuits extend beyond editing. His deep appreciation for graphic novels, motion graphics, animation, animated films, and music enables him to engage with diverse aspects of visual storytelling. Whether editing, directing, or illustrating, Prakash approaches every project with humility, passion, and a commitment to learning.
