Martin de Thurah, born in Copenhagen, is a renowned director, screenwriter, and photographer. He is known for his emotionally powerful and dreamlike scenarios that blur the line between reality and fiction.
De Thurah's career in film began in 2005 when he decided to venture into his own projects after being a member of a hacking group and pursuing various artistic endeavors such as watercolor painting and photography. Shortly after, he received an opportunity to direct a music video.
In 2007, his short film "Young Man Falling" was selected for Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, de Thurah has become a highly sought-after music video director, collaborating with acclaimed artists like James Blake, David Byrne and St. Vincent, Kanye West, and many others.
He has also achieved remarkable success in the commercial industry, working with notable brands such as Under Armour, Nordstrom, Facebook, and Hennessy, among others. De Thurah has received numerous accolades, including being voted Commercial Director of the Year twice by the Directors Guild of America. He has won 35 D&AD awards and received recognition at prestigious events such as AICP, Ciclope, Shots Awards, and CLIOs.
Notably, his work for Under Armour titled "Phelps" garnered significant acclaim, winning 11 Lions at the Cannes Festival, including the Grand Prix for Craft.
In addition to his commercial and music video work, de Thurah has also directed the final episodes of the Danish TV series "DELIVER US" and created the short film "THE RAID" for the World of the Vikings exhibit at the National Museum in Copenhagen.
