Following the success of Henry-Alex Rubin's debut feature film, Murderball, which won at Sundance and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary, Rubin established himself as a renowned director in the advertising industry, celebrated for his ability to capture genuine emotions and portray naturalism in his work.
Throughout his career, Rubin has continued to direct feature films such as Disconnect and Semper Fi, while also earning a reputation as one of the most acclaimed commercial directors globally. His remarkable achievements include winning over 60 Cannes Lions awards. Rubin's breakthrough campaign, "Whopper Freakout," not only triumphed at Cannes but also received the prestigious Advertising Excellence Award from AICP. Another notable accomplishment was his emotionally compelling black and white film for Gatorade, which paid tribute to Derek Jeter's retirement as a Yankee shortstop and garnered an Emmy nomination for Best Commercial. His subsequent film for Gatorade, honoring Peyton Manning, also received an Emmy nomination.
A cause close to Rubin's heart is his collaboration with Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit organization. He has directed five films for the organization, including "Back To School Essentials," which won the Emmy for Best Commercial. Furthermore, Rubin's work for Sandy Hook Promise earned him the Clio & Brand Storytelling's inaugural Storytelling for Good Award at Sundance, marking the first advertising award presented at a major international film festival. Rubin's short film "Teenage Dream," created for Sandy Hook Promise, featured actual survivors of school shootings across the United States, earning him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Commercial and his first nomination from the DGA (Directors Guild of America).
