Dhruv Ghanekar is a Mumbai-based music composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with over 25 years of experience. He is renowned for blending traditional Indian music with contemporary styles like jazz, hip-hop, and rock.
Starting his career at the age of 14, he was nominated for a National Award for his work on Shyam Benegal’s film Susman. His formal musical training includes attending the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and Berklee College of Music in Boston on a scholarship.
Dhruv has earned a global presence, with his work garnering over 532,000 Spotify streams across 144 countries in 2022. His compositions for Coke Studio Season 4 in 2015 marked a milestone in his recognition as a composer. Collaborating with Ashutosh Phatak, he co-founded Smoke Music Production, producing pop albums for various artists, while also scoring over 2,500 commercials within a seven-year period.
In the advertising sphere, Dhruv has worked on campaigns for Nike 'Make Every Yard Count', Samsung 'We Will Take Care of You', Titan 'Be More ft. Aamir Khan', Sprite 'Gyaan Gul', Fevicol 'Moochwali', and Flipkart. His clientele includes brands like Nike, Samsung, Fevicol, BBC One, Absolut Vodka, Unilever, Tata, Reliance, and Mahindra.
Dhruv’s film and series work includes Dhaakad and the Netflix series Choona (2023), Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) to name a few. Balancing independent projects and commercial assignments, his music reflects his training in Hindustani classical music and jazz.
He continues to innovate, working on diverse projects like Mumbai Star, a Broadway-style musical blending Kathak, Indian folk, and hip-hop influences. Additionally, he continues to contibute as a key figure in India's evolving indie music scene.
