Mudra Communications, established on March 25, 1980, by A. G. Krishnamurthi in Mumbai, began with a modest team of 15 employees, a 500 sq. ft workspace, and a startup capital of Rs 40,000.
In 1990, Mudra formed a collaboration with DDB Needham Worldwide, and in 2011, it was acquired by Omnicom Group, becoming DDB Mudra Group and merging with DDB Worldwide.
Today, DDB Mudra Group comprises three agency networks, six specialist agencies, and eleven Strategic Business Units. Under the leadership of CEO Aditya Kanthy and CCO Rahul Mathew, the agency has won numerous awards, including Cannes Lions five years in a row, and was crowned Cannes Network of the Year in 2023.
Mudra Communications is known for creating iconic taglines and jingles such as "I Love You Rasna," "Dhara Dhara Shudh Dhara," "The Mint with the Hole," "God's Own Country," "Zindagi Ke Saath Bhi Zindagi Ke Baad Bhi," "Humko Binnies Banta," and "Only Vimal."
Their creative philosophy focuses on emotionally charged creativity that moves people, brands, markets, and culture. Notable campaigns include Stayfree's #ItsJustAPeriod, McDonald's 'It's Easy to Feel Good,' MTV's 'BotHard,' and Battlegrounds Mobile India's 'Game Responsibly,' which was India's only Cannes winner. The agency has also worked with brands such as Jio Cinema, Raymond, Facebook, Instagram, Volkswagen, H&M, Netflix, and McDowell's.
DDB Mudra's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is evident in its award-winning initiatives such as The Phyllis India Project and OPEN Pride. The agency has won the Cannes Lions Network of the Year for five consecutive years. In 2022, DDB Mudra became the first Indian agency to be named APAC Agency of the Year. Along with accolades at awards such as WARC, Campaign Brief The Work, Kyoorius Creative Awards, and many others.
Additionally, the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA), established by Mudra, is the first residential academic institution in the Asia-Pacific region dedicated to the needs of the marketing communications industry. Since its inception, MICA has produced thousands of professionals in advertising, communications, and marketing.
